In “Vanishing Voices: Saving Our Hawaiian Forest Birds,” writer and director Todd J. Robertson at Hyperspective has crafted a film that raises the alarm about the many species of Hawaiian birds that face imminent extinction from diseases transmitted by non-native mosquitoes. It’s such an important and immediate message, and I feel a deep sense of meaning in being able to give voice to it myself.

What does it mean, to “give voice” to something? For me, as a narrator, it often means cultivating a particular tone that creates a specific atmosphere. It means using that atmosphere to enhance the meaning of a message. To communicate with purpose.

In some cases though, giving voice means even more than that.

Working with a client to achieve the tone and delivery that they’re looking for is something that I truly enjoy.
